LS C&S announced on July 3 that the company will officially launch a resource recirculation project to recycle wooden cable drums. This is a part of the company’s policy of enhancing its ESG management to build a resource recirculation ecosystem.

Wooden drums are used for cable storage and shipping, and they are often discarded after a single use.

LS C&S will begin operation of its online platform ‘ON DRUM,’ where companies can trade used wooden drums, in September.

Once companies or institutions upload information on empty drums after using cables, the collection companies repair and repackage the drums to supply them again to other cable manufacturers.

ON DRUM will be operated by the wooden drum manufacturer G&P Wood, a sub-subsidiary of LS C&S. G&P Wood CEO Kyung-Ro Lee stated, “We will reduce construction waste and contribute to the acceleration of resource recirculation through the systematization and online integration of the supply chain and collection process of drums.”

Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP) will be participating in this pilot project. LS C&S and KHNP previously concluded the ‘Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for Joint Execution of ESG Management and Resource Recirculation’ at the LS C&S headquarters in Anyang, Gyeonggi-do, on July 1. Both companies have agreed to cooperate in collecting and recycling wooden drums from construction sites of KHNP as the first step in this process of cooperation.

LS C&S will continue to promote resource recirculation projects for cables and relevant subsidiary materials in the future.
