LS Cable & System will cooperate with Hanwha E&C for Korea’s largest offshore wind farm project.

LS Cable & System announced on the 7th that it was selected as the preferred bidder for submarine cable supply to the Sinan Ui offshore wind farm project promoted by Hanwha E&C.

This is a large-scale project to build a 400 MW offshore wind farm in the sea area to the southeast of Ui Island, Sinan-gun, Jeollanam-do. As of 2022, the scale was over three times the cumulative capacity of offshore wind power generation facilities currently installed in Korea, which is 124 MW.

In the second half of 2025, LS Cable & System will supply all submarine cables necessary for the wind farm construction and its connection to the land. The contract scale is expected to be as large as KRW 100 billion.

Having set the goal of completing the project in 2026, the two companies will immediately embark on contract negotiations for product specifications, etc.

Starting with this project, LS Cable & System and Hanwha E&C will strengthen cooperation in domestic offshore wind power generation projects.

“Overseas companies, such as those of China, are targeting Korea’s offshore wind power market after dominating the solar power market,” said an LS Cable & System official. “This cooperation holds great significance as Hanwha E&C, an offshore wind power leader, and LS Cable & System, a submarine cable maker, are cooperating to protect Korea’s industrial ecosystem.”

The total scale of offshore power generation projects that have obtained permits as power generation businesses is 20 GW so far. The industry estimates the total project scale to be KRW 100 trillion or more.

LG Cable & System is expanding investments to strengthen its submarine cable business, such as by developing a 525 kV class HVDC cable, which is a world’s top-tier product, and completing the construction of an HVDC manufacturing plant.
