LS Cable & System and LS Eco Energy are strengthening their presence in the U.S. market, starting with the first supply of MV-grade aluminum power cables.

The two companies announced on the 6th that they will supply 35 kV aluminum power cables worth USD 25 million (approximately KRW 36.3 billion) to a U.S. solar EPC company.

The cables will be used to build power grids for solar power plants across the U.S., including in California, New Jersey and Indiana. These cables enhance the reliability of solar power systems due to their high durability and stable high-voltage transmission performance even in extreme conditions such as high temperatures, rainfall, and dust.

LS Cable & System and LS Eco Energy have been making proactive efforts to keep pace with the continued growth of the U.S. solar power market, including developing high-quality aluminum cables and obtaining UL certification, a U.S. safety standard.

In addition, this supply contract is in line with the U.S. government’s De-Sinicization policy, which further highlights the competitiveness of both companies. Recently, the U.S. government has not only imposed overall tariffs of 45% on Chinese cables, it is also strengthening regulations on roundabout exports using Chinese materials.

“LS Cable & System, LS Eco Energy, and other LS cable affiliates, including Gaon Cable, do not use aluminum or copper from China in consideration of raw material quality and supply chain stability,” said an official of the company. “We plan to expand our market by participating in various power infrastructure projects as well as solar power.”

Last year, LS Cable & System and LS Eco Energy recorded their highest performance ever, with exports of telecommunications (UTP) cables to the U.S. increasing by approximately 15% year-on-year. This growth is expected to be further enhanced by the two companies' expansion of exports of aluminum power cables this year.
